Sceletium tortuosum
Sceletium tortuosum--Kanna
Native to Southern African, Sceletium
tortuosum (commonly called "Kanna") has been used for centuries as a
natural mood-enhancer.
As early as the 17th century, Dutch colonists reported that the natives
snuffed, smoked or chewed Kanna and "their spirits would rise, eyes
brighten and faces take on a jovial air, and they would commence to
dance." In doses as small as 20mg it would relieve stress and anxiety and
produce a state of alert relaxation. Ingestion of larger doses (50-100mg)
resulted in euphoria and stimulation. Sceletium tortuosum was often
used in combination with other herbs, as they were found by indigenous
peoples to complement one another.
WARNING! Sceletium
tortuosum is believed to act as a Selective Serotonin Reuptake
Inhibitor (SSRI) in the brain. Sceletium tortuosum in combination
with common psychiatric medications including other SSRIs (such as Prozac)
and MAO Inhibitors may cause injury or death! Salvia Space products are not intended for
